Students draft the essay collaboratively in real time with two classmates, embed a video interview they conducted, and receive live comments from a teacher during writing. The task itself has changed. Collaboration and multimedia are now central, not add-ons.

4. Redefinition: Tech creates tasks that were previously inconceivable

Students research a local issue, interview experts through video calls, publish their essay as a public multimedia website, and collect responses from readers around the world. Then they revise based on that feedback. The essay has become a piece of civic authorship. Nothing about this task was possible in a pre-digital classroom.

A Simple Diagnostic: Ask Two Questions
